Breakthroughs begin with questions and the courage of those who ask them. Our researchers are making important strides in understanding how early antibiotics affect immune development and in improving treatments for childhood cancers, autism, asthma, and rare diseases. A dedicated Pediatric Research Institute will bring this work together under one roof, providing better support for researchers and accelerating the pace of discovery.

As the region’s only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, our Pediatric Emergency Department provides care to 32,000 children each year—many facing complex, life-threatening conditions. A new, expanded space will feature 39 private rooms and dedicated trauma areas, offering a calmer, more supportive environment for children and families during their most critical moments.

That’s why we’re building programs that meet families where they are, including mobile medical units delivering care directly to neighborhoods, emergency food resources, and school-based telemedicine to ensure kids get care without missing class. After being diagnosed with pediatric kidney cancer, nine-year-old Paige Smith was determined to take on her aggressive treatment while living her life on her own terms. She refused to miss school or withdraw socially, and her upbeat personality left a lasting impression on her entire care team.
Now in complete remission, Paige and her family are celebrating how far she’s come, and Paige herself has connected with other children beginning treatment: offering encouragement and sharing her experiences.
