Credit card, check, or electric transfer
- The most secure way to donate funds to the University is through our online portals for U.S. gifts or international gifts.
- If you prefer to pay by mail, please download, print, complete, and mail our pledge form.

University payroll deduction
University employees may choose to give through the convenience of payroll deduction.
IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you take a required minimum distribution (RMD) from an IRA, talk to your tax advisor about the benefits of transferring all or part of your RMD to the University of Rochester, tax free! Making a gift is easy:
- Contact your advisor or representative at the financial institution
that holds your IRA. - Tell your representative that you wish to make a QCD from your IRA
to the University of Rochester. - Request a check made payable to the “University of Rochester” and
indicate that it is “a qualified charitable distribution from the account
of (Your Name).” For wire transfers, request transfer instructions
from us. - University of Rochester federal tax ID: #16-0743209.
- Please contact us and let us know to expect a payment, indicating
any designations such as school, hospital, or fund.
Planned giving / estate planning
Include the University in your estate plans, and become part of the University’s 3,000-member Wilson Society. Our team can help you to structure a giving plan to maximize your income and tax advantages with a flexible array of options:
- Deferred gifts—such as bequests by will or trust, or naming the University as a beneficiary of a retirement fund, life insurance policy, or other asset—cost nothing during your lifetime.
- Charitable trusts and annuities pay you income for life and are managed in the University endowment.
- Other options are tailored to your unique goals, such as gifting real estate or other appreciated property.
In addition to the tax and financial benefits of planned giving, Wilson Society members enjoy exclusive access to events, opportunities to connect with University leadership, and the chance to join others whose personal legacies and values will shape our future.

Cryptocurrency
University of Rochester accepts donations of cryptocurrencies* that are convertible to U.S. dollars through third party processor BitPay. BitPay may limit donations from some countries in order to adhere to those nations’ cryptocurrency regulations. We are only able to accept donations of $100,000 or less per day via cryptocurrency.
For donors in the U.S., the IRS has classified cryptocurrency as a form of property for tax purposes. All contributions of cryptocurrency are immediately converted to cash and cannot be refunded for any reason. University of Rochester does not maintain crypto wallets nor accept transactions directly in cryptocurrencies.
